Sandi and I headed up Mount Jackson to feed the Canada Jays. It was March 31st 2007, sunny with temps in the 40's. The snow was about 3 to 4 feet deep in the woods, however the summit was clear from warmth of the sun. We sat on the protected side of the summit, feeding the gray jays in the shadow of Mount Washington. A beautiful day!
Started our hike up Mt. Jackson from NH Route 302 in Crawford Notch about 10:30 Sunday. Nice day for winter hiking, not much wind except for on the summit of course. See the panorama of the presidentials, Mt. Washington obscured by clouds, with Jim pointing them out by name as I panned.
The highlight of the day besides the summit was the Canada Jays having lunch with us!
September 8th 2008
Up The Ammonusuc Ravine Trail, stopped at Lake of the Clouds Hut for coffee, headed across Crawford Path to the summit of Washington. From there, we took the Great Gulf Trail to the Jewell Trail back to our starting point for a great loop over the higest summit in the northeast.
This was Sandi's first time over the rock pile and she did great.
John and I hiked up South Moat in Conway New Hampshire on Saturday April 7th 2007. Winter was officially over by our calendar, but no one told South Moat Mountain! Beautiful views of Mount Chochorua, and the snow on the trees was other worldly!
Fall hike in Franconia Notch NH. 8 miles round trip, with a gain of about 3400'. Beautiful day with almost no wind. We were in shorts and t-shirts almost all day.
Great day to be hiking in the White Mountains
June 14th 2008 - Hiked from Lincoln Woods parking area up to Mount Flume and back. Warm day, the bugs were hungry but the sun wasn't too hot. Nice breeze and "Views From The Top" when I reached the summit.
Music is from Islandside's CD recorded back in the early 90's.
Hiked up Mount Eisenhower, one of the Southern Persidentials in Crawford Notch New Hampshire on June 8, 2007. My 12th, my daughter Ila's 5th and Kyle's first 4000'er. The weather was hot, a bit hazy, buggy and no wind, even on the summit. We saw "Indian Poke" by a run off and the beautiful white flowers of "Alpine Sandwort" covered the summit.
Hiked up Falling Waters Trail past Cloudland Falls, spectacular, to the ridge and junction with the Franconia Ridge Trail (The Appalachian Trail), Summited Lincoln and Lafayette, heading back down over the Old Bridle Path.
Hiked the 19 mile brook trail to South Carter 3/18/2008, one more hike left in winter, on a beautiful day too! Above 4000 feet, the trees were coated in solid ice.
